The Beautiful Birth Festival is a unique opportunity to celebrate, honour and revere pregnancy, birth and parenthood. They offer a beautiful and meaningful family event with high quality objective information regarding pregnancy, birth and early parenting choices within a vibrant cultural and artistic program.

The Festival is organised by five mothers who have all been directly involved in maternity consumer services and have a combined total of 40 years experience in voluntary community service and over 50 years experience in the corporate sector. Society is bombarded with negative images surrounding birth, so they aim to celebrate birth and parenthood and reduce the number of families experiencing negative or traumatic births and early parenting experiences. This project was undertaken to counter the prevailing fear and trauma that can surround birth in a society with rising caesarean and post natal depression rates.

The 2011 Festival will see a birth photography competition held in the foyer of the historic building. A prize has been donated by the Festival Photographer, celebrated Maternity and Child photographer Mel of IamMel Photography. A dimly lit room scattered with cushions will host women sharing their beautiful birth stories.

Professionals and consumers can attend presentations and interactive workshops. A number of local and interstate artists have been invited to display visual art of any medium in a large gallery space that will be frequented by attendees at the keynote speaker presentation, a Maternity fashion parade and a feature film.

The grounds will be decorated by brightly coloured flags and host up to 60 stallholders including face painters, multicultural foods, complementary therapists and a vast array of information and merchandise stalls. A chill out area for parents and children is being provided in a Yurt in deep shade. A creche will operate in the playground; Stargold puppets will perform two shows exclusively for the creche. Entertainers and performers have been chosen- preparations are well under way!!
